War . . . Do You Want To Talk About It? By Jan Tincher

We are the backbone of America. Why fill our hearts with fear?

What do you say when you talk about war? Anything like this?
*They say the gas prices are going sky-high.* *There's going to be a war, there's no getting out of it.* *There will be food rationing if things get really bad.* *The money for war has to come from somewhere. I imagine the poor will feel it the worst as their benefits dry up.*
Or maybe you have other, perhaps worse, ideas of what war means to you, and you want to share them?
Now, many of you may not see the problem here. Many may say that people really need to know what's going on.
You might think people need to gird themselves and prepare. People can't stick their head in the sand. You gotta tell it like it is. Etc.
Well, you may be right. But if you live the motto, *Harm to no one,* maybe you should take a second look at what the consequences are when people hear about war.
When you are telling people *how it is*, look at their faces. Do you see smiles?
No. More than likely you see despair, worry, devastation.
You see, people search their minds with the one question that is all important to EVERYONE. *How does this affect me?*
Then, their mind tells them, *You've got relatives in the reserves. You may never see them again.* *Your son and his children are on Title 19, they may have to move in with you.* *If gas prices go too high, you won't be able to go see your grandkids.* *You don't have enough food as it is. What will you do when they start rationing?* You know what I'm talking about.
What is your mind's answer to the question *How does this affect me?*?
Are you smiling? I don't think so.
Almost each and every person you talk to in the United States is the backbone of America. Why fill their hearts with fear? The fear will travel into each individual's heart and home. They will be repeated there, then spread to other people's homes. The tearing down of America starts with the first person, and continues -- one person at a time.
Now, granted, war is disastrous. War can destroy us. However, there is something else to think about, and it is this: If the war doesn't destroy us, and we're still here, the negativity will grab a toehold. Inside, where it does the most lasting damage. We all know someone who lived in the depression. They've never forgotten. Neither will we.
What can we do about it? If you have to talk about war, end it on a good note. *If gas prices go too high, I'm making plans to email my grandkids more.* *They had food rationing in World War II and they found ways to work with it. We are much more advanced, so I'm sure we can too.* *If they cut Title 19, I will be happy to have my son and his family move in with me.* *I will send letters to my relatives in the reserves each and every week, letting them know I care about them.*
Now, some of you may not agree with the various ways of dealing with the above, but that's not what's important. What is important is the process. Find your own way to be upbeat. ALWAYS end on a positive note. Don't send anyone home crying in their hearts. You will have done much for the sake of many.
Give people hope. That's what EVERYONE can do.
If we are for America, then we need to watch what we say. If there are those among us who are against America, then the easiest way to tear us down is to start with our emotionally handicapped, people who feel they can't do anything about war. This is how *victims* are made.
Every time you talk about war, ask yourself this question: Am I breaking down America or building her up?
