As homeschooling becomes more accepted many parents are beginning to explore the positive aspects of this form of education. Why homeschool? The benefits include using a specially designed curriculum for your child, using field trips to provide educational opportunities and an unlimited time to focus on a subject until the child understands it. The typical public school uses institutional learning that is outcome based. This means that children are taught to take tests and hopefully pass them. Public schooling is no longer about learning the ABC's and 1,2,3's but rather learning to pass state mandated tests that are designed to test the teacher's abilities. Why homeschool? The answer is clear- our children deserve more from us. Most parents are more than qualified to deliver a better education to their child than their public school can.
The top two reasons to homeschool your children can be given superior academic opportunities and character development. Homeschooling is superior to public schooling because it offers a low student to teacher ratio, instant feedback, the curriculum is customized, there is greater flexibility in teaching a subject and there are fewer distractions at home.
The other benefit of homeschooling is teaching your child your religious beliefs and parental values. Public schooled children have to deal with peer values and herd behavior. Children that are homeschooled are more confident and are independent thinkers.
A homeschooled success story is Thomas Edison. Why homeschool this budding genius? He was labeled in the first grade as disruptive, unruly and developmentally retarded. His mother recognized the value of a home education and decided to teach him at home.
People may ask why not just sent a child to a Christian based school instead of homeschooling? The answer is still the same. Christian schools, like public schools, have a limited time to present information, and they are plagued by the problems that face all teachers. There will still be disruptive children in the classroom, there will always be paperwork to grade and negative peer pressure exists in Christian schools too.
Why homeschool your child instead of accepting the fact that your child is below average? A painful fact for some parents is that their child has been labeled early on as a special education case or incapable of average schoolwork. If the child doesn't have any medical reason for doing poorly maybe the parents should be asking if the school is doing everything they can do to teach their child.
Our public schools simply don't have the manpower to teach all the special education children. It is easier to let them slip through the cracks than to figure out a way to reach a child who is struggling in school. Many teachers simply don't have the expertise to pinpoint a learning gap that is causing a child to fail. The parents, however, know their child better than anyone else.
Homeschooling is a great way to help your child overcome these gaps, simply because you have the time and drive to do so.
