Americans are messier during the holidays.According to a national survey conducted by Opinion Research Corporation nearly half of Americans (42 percent) claim the number of spills in their homes increase during the holidays.
In fact, more than one third of us (39 percent) will lose an entire serving from our holiday dinner, and that is before it ever makes it to the table! Between spilled food, your family, friends, and the odd reindeer traipsing through your home, floors experience enough wear and tear from Thanksgiving to New Year to last them a lifetime.
What is the item we spill the most? Cookies take the cake in this category; one out of every two Americans (48 percent) will find cookie crumbs on their floors. The rest is gravy - this festive sauce accounts for 15 percent of spills. But, what goes down must come up - within five seconds that is - 43 percent of households say it is okay to eat food that falls on the floor as long as it is picked up within five seconds. Typically, friends and family are happy to celebrate the holidays but may have left or be home snug in their beds by the time you are ready to clean up, causing 29 percent of us to face after holiday tidying alone. Even so, 67 percent of us clean up the same night as our holiday event.
The Swiffer family of products can help you clean up after your festivities, a task that can be tougher than squeezing a huge bag of toys through the chimney. The dry and wet cleaning cloths can be attached to the sweeper for floor cleaning or used alone for hand dusting. The Swiffer WetJet, an all-in-one system for cleaning floors without the need for a mop or heavy bucket of water, will remove everything from sooty footprints to muddy reindeer tracks and even the inevitable drips of gravy that do not make it onto your plate.
